Sudamericano Argentina today and the disaster of Sweden 1958: oblivion

The last campaign of Argentina's Maradona selection reminded me of one of the saddest episodes of the famously football Histria Andes. Indeed, the symptoms of both processes seem quite similar: big stars, renowned coaches, combined with poor organization and consequent poor performance dirigencial. The analogy may be a bit exaggerated, but here's the analysis.

I. The Good

Football 1958: The Argentina team of 58, led by Stabile, had players like Amadeo Carrizo and Enrique Omar Sivori. The team was armed based on the national three-time champion River Plate, 1955 56 and 57. Still savoring the success of the South American Peru, with a squad that was nicknamed "the Carasucias" for his youth and lack of inhibition. That makeshift team won the European title with 25 goals scored and only six against, and a humiliating 3-0 to Brazil. These glosses Argentine football boasted to the press and across the country. The game's artistic splendor and near campus that drew an indelible mark on the history of domestic football, but also sowed omnipotence. Nobody expected anything other than the return from Sweden to the title in the hands ("The glory that was" by Alejandro Di Giacomo, Publisher Intellectual Capital, August 2007).

bad thing about 1958: Carrizo ate six goals against the Czechs, for whom an Argentine spy who was sent to Europe had ruled, "we beat them walking." This is just one example of the disaster in Sweden, where Argentina was eliminated in the first round.

good thing about today: The selection of today has a lot of guys who grew up under the processes of the youth teams. Messi and Aguero think, to mention two of the most notable cases, which grew under the leadership of two expermientados, like our famous Tocalli and Pekerman. Before the playoffs

bad thing today: 5 to 0 with Bolivia, with Brazil's defeat at home, or the process of elimination in general.

II. Leaders.

bad thing about Sweden 1958: The dialogue between the captain and a former leader of the AFA, played by former footballer himself, is eloquent on the subject:
- Are they good, they need something? Did you bring some women, there are good alemanitas either blondes and big, they can have some fun? Would not want to appease the boredom?
"No, no women at the rally. What this campus needs is a good cook. Eating food in Argentina, some steaks, pastas. Bring a chef, which we will thank you.
- Sure? All right. Do not worry, they are resolved in a couple of hours.
next day a new member joined the delegation of Argentina. A great steak prepared with onions, which sparked the cry of the players. At night, the same meal. At noon the next day too. And once again in the second dinner. The team captain was disturbed and confronted the suspect then chef-Oíme
kid, delicious steaks with creole onion. But it changed a little, we will not eat the same all month.
"I will not be able to help.
The captain's face was transformed. And of course cook completed his explanation:
-you know what happens, I do not know how to cook. A cook was too expensive. I attend the firm in New Chicago I contrived to some things and brought me a rush to solve the problem without spending too much.
In the 1974 World Cup, Argentina National Team was not only good food. Agony passed the first round but fell 0-4 humiliation to Holland, Brazil lost 2-1 and drew 1-1 with East Germany, before returning crestfallen and criticized Buenos Aires. A triumvirate of coaches confused chaos had brought more order to a team with outstanding players but collective scheme. That World Cup was the last link in a chain of sorrows opened in 1958 and lasted two decades.

bad thing about today: Grondona in command of the AFA and at the same time owner TyC and Arsenal, who won a South American fairly dubious. A Maradona to give him permission to travel to a spa in Europe. A leadership that, for more money to handle, is unable to keep their players focused on football.

refutation of the analogy: the case Bielsa, whose analysis I hope to publish next comment.

III. Conclusions: when I say that forgetfulness is full of memory is for the brothers trasandinos have a little more built this disaster in Sweden in their DNA. The story was repeated in Chile 62 and lasted until Germany 1974, which suffered the same fate. Were delayed 20 years to get ahead, amid of dictatorship and in a game with Peru which has thrown a shadow of doubt no less. History is important, the memory should be preserved, even the memory of failure. Bielsa I think accurately represents this philosophy. However, there were the ghosts of Sweden, who slipped through the minds of Bielsa as they left the World Cup in Korea. There is something else, a concept a little more dense the concept of failure that I hope to elucidate in a future post.

This is the word of football.
